Tests required for College and Technical Schools

Students who plan to attend a four-year college or university are required to take either the ACT or SAT test. Schools in the Midwest prefer the ACT while those on the East or West coast prefer the SAT. Students can check which test is preferred by the school in which they are interested by using various resources, such as College Handbook by CollegeBoard which is available in the counseling office.

Students who plan to attend Mid-State Technical College should take the Accuplacer test. If the student has already taken the ACT, those results can be subsituted for the Accuplacer. For any other technical school, the student should apply to the school, after which he/she will be notified as to which test to take.

You can register for the ACT test online at www.actstudent.org or the SAT test online at www.collegeboard.com.  These tests are only given on a few dates each year and registration must be completed several weeks prior to the test date.  A free study guide for each is available in the counseling office.

The Accuplacer is given once a month at MHS.  To register, see Mr. Roeglin in the counseling office.  The cost of the test is $10.  It can also be taken at Mid-State Technical College, 2000 W. 5th St., Marshfield, telephone 715-387-2538.  This link will take you to more information about the Accuplacer.  To view a free study guide and practice tests, go to www.mstc.edu/pdf/AccuplacerRemediationLinks.pdf or to www.studyguidezone.com/pdfs/accuplacertest.
