Rhonda Goettl - Youth Service Learning Coordinator

Youth Service Learning (YSL) is available to all Marshfield High School students on a voluntary basis. No academic credit is given for participation. Students who complete 100 hours or more of community service receive special recognition each year. It will be noted on their transcripts, and the President's Student Service Award will be presented to students who serve 100 hours or more their senior year.

A minimum of 60 hours of service must be in the community in approved activities. A maximum of 40 hours could be in-school service helping students of staff members in approved activities. No retro credit toward the 100 hours will be given for service completed prior to enrollment in this program.

Students are encouraged to complete the Youth Service Learning Registration Form as freshmen but enrollment is available throughout each school year. Students who are members of the National Honor Society (NHS) may get dual credit for service housed with NHS and YSL. Volunteer hours must be recorded on the Volunteer Confirmation Form and returned to Rhonda Goettl.

YSL offers you opportunities to:

  • Explore a career in a non-profit agency
  • Enhance employability by gaining work experience and references
  • Learn firsthand about some civic issues, needs and problems
  • Experience the satisfaction that comes from working without pay to help someone else
  • Develop communication skills, teamwork, civic responsibility, and leadership skills
